My Second Trimester Check List + 15 Things You Can Add to Yours

The second trimester has been so back and forth for me. Most women say that the second trimester makes you feel more energized and less nauseous…but that just isn’t true for me. I am so not energized at all. I am blatantly exhausted!! Despite this, I’ve still been working on my Second Trimester Check List!

My Second Trimester Check List

What Is A Second Trimester Check List?

Easy enough – it’s exactly the way it sounds. It’s a list of things I want or need to accomplish during my second trimester of pregnancy. Whether it be things by OB wants me to do or things I want to do for myself. In the same way, you can make your own list varying on what you’ve already accomplished throughout your pregnancy vs what still needs to be done. Treat it like and normal to-do list and only write down things that take priority!

Halfway Through the Second Trimester: What’s Left to Do?

Earlier this week, I mentioned how crazy it is that I’m already halfway through my pregnancy! What’s even more interesting to find is that today (21+1) I am also halfway through the second trimester. Funny how that works! And while I’ve already accomplished a lot, like: switching to my second trimester vitamins, applying for WIC, finding out the sex, picking a name; etc. There’s still a few more things on my list that I want to finish before this trimester is through.

8 Things Left on MY Second Trimester Checklist

  1. Take a breastfeeding class.
  2. Research first-time parent classes.
  3. Find a local mom support group.
  4. Get my teeth cleaned. I know this sounds silly, but since becoming pregnant my gums have been more sensitive!
  5. Shop for some new maternity clothes. I’ve been living in the same two pairs of leggings…
  6. Finally finish my baby registries on Amazon and Target.
  7. Book a flight. My baby shower is going to be held in another state where all my family and friends are. So I’ll be flying there!
  8. Have a baby shower! Mine is scheduled for Sunday, March 8th, which is during the last week of my second trimester!

15 Things That Should Be on YOUR Second Trimester Checklist

  1. Start doing prenatal fitness. I’ve been doing yoga once or twice per week!
  2. Determine if you want to learn the sex. And if you do, book that appointment!! Your OB should give you the OK to make an anatomy scan appointment between 18 and 22 weeks. (I did mine at 18 because I simply could not wait!)
  3. Learn about second trimester prenatal visits and tests. You’re going to be offered tests such as the glucose test, which tests for gestational diabetes, the Quad Screening, which tests for Downs Syndrome – and so many more! Determine with your caregiver if you should get these tests done and if your insurance will cover it. (I got a Quad Screen done – more on this next week!)
  4. Start moisturizing your belly. If you haven’t already, it’s so important to keep your skin exfoliated and moisturized. It’ll help with stretch marks but also: YOUR BELLY WILL ITCH LIKE CRAZY WITHOUT IT.
  5. Narrow down your list of baby names. I’m 99.9% sure we’ve already decided on one, but if you haven’t, now is a good time to start making that list!
  6. Look into childbirth classes. Need I say: ESSENTIAL.
  7. Start your child care search. I haven’t put this on my list yet because I’m trying to claim a remote job working from home. If I do, I won’t have to worry about childcare!
  8. Kegels. Let’s get real, ladies. Kegels can help prevent urine leaks during and after pregnancy, keep hemorrhoids at bay, and improve the muscle tone of your vagina, making sex more enjoyable. Yes, I said the word sex! How do you think we got to this point in the first place?
  9. Create a baby registry. If you haven’t started one yet, now may be a good time. Research those car seats, strollers, and diapers to your heart’s content!
  10. Make healthier eating habits. Now is the perfect time to start this! I want to be a good example for my baby when the time comes – and it all starts with what they see YOU doing. Make the healthier choice! (But remind them that cake is okay, too…)
  11. Book a babymoon. “What is a babymoon,” you ask? A babymoon is a relaxed getaway vacation for the expectant mom/parents to relax before their newest edition moves in. I’m thinking of having mine when I fly to visit my family in March!
  12. Start a budget. For pregnancy and post-pregnancy!
  13. Savor the moment. I know this may seem hard right now because everything is CRAZY. But it’s so essential for your health and sanity to stop and take a moment.
  14. Go on a date. Or go out with friends. Seriously, just surround yourself with adults for a night.
  15. Decide on your maternity leave. If you have a job that offers paid time off, or even if you don’t, it’s important to start thinking about this leave ahead of time!

What things have you already accomplished on your second trimester check list? What’s left to do? Let me know in the comments!

xoxo Mama
